Welcome to December and the final recipe for the 2017 Just dogs with Sherri Cookie Club.  First I want to thank you all for joining the club.  I hope that you have enjoyed the club and baking cookies for your dogs (and you).  :)

This months cookies are very seasonal in that T'is the season theme.

Shortbread, is there anything more seasonal than shortbread?

Luke's favorite cookies were always shortbread; so I set out to create several recipes that were a healthier version of typical shortbread.  I hope that you and your dog enjoy this recipe.  I know that Elsa LOVES them.  She sits by the cookie jar just waiting for it to open.

I would love to hear from you about your time here at the Cookie Club.

Happy Holidays

Jingle Bell cookies

  • 1/2 cup brown rice flour
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 2 cups oatmeal flour
  • 1 cup butter
  • 3 Tbsp honey

Preheat oven to 325-350.

Throw brown rice flour, almond flour, oat flour, butter and honey in a bowl and mix well.  Use a mixer or use your hands.  This is a stickier batter so if you use your hands, it will get messy.

Grab a cookie scoop or teaspoon and drop a rough ball onto your cookie sheet. Press flat with your hand or you could also use a fork as well.

Bake at 325-350 for 12 - 14 minutes.

Enjoy!

Training tip #12

This is really a nutritional tip in lieu of a training tip to wrap up the end of the Cookie Club.  I thought it was important because I hear of so many dogs with the same "issue."

Vomiting

Many dogs vomit in the morning and from a great deal of past experience; it is due to a lack of food in their stomach.  Elsa is one of these dogs.  Of course not all dogs have this issue but many do.  What I recommend and do for Elsa is to give her a protein rich snack right at bedtime and as soon as she gets up in the morning.

Sometimes the problem is completely eliminated by just offering a bit off food in the morning; especially if they eat an early dinner in the evening.  The cookies in this club that are garbanzo bean based are great for this.  You could use this recipe as well but they are not as high in protein.  Elsa love this solution.  :)
