June gloom.  Here in Southern California it gets pretty gloomy in June and the end of May.  What June gloom is, is a marine layer that comes in off the ocean and wants to stick around a while.  Even here in sunny California it is not sunny all of the time so when June gloom decides to leave; we are quite happy about it.

June recipe has sweet potato in it so they are called Sweet Potato cookies.  :)

These are roll cookies that bake up nice and crunchy; becoming very pocketable.  Enjoy!

Sweet Potato

  • 1 medium sweet potato cooked
  • 1 cup garbanzo bean flour
  • 1 cup buckwheat flour
  • 1 cup flaked unsweetened coconut
  • 1-6 Tblsp water
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Organic rice flour to roll cookies out in.

Preheat oven to 350

Throw all ingredients in a bowl and mix well.  Use mixer if you like.  Water amount needed can vary a lot depending on how you cook your sweet potato and size.  So start with 1 and add more if needed.

Roll cookies out on sheet with organic rice flour.  Roll to approximately 1/8 inch think and cut.  Place on cookie sheet and pop in the oven.

Bake at 350 for 15 min.  Turn oven down to 200 for another 15 min.  Turn oven off and leave in for 30 minutes to several hours to dry.  Enjoy!

Training tip #6

Does your dog know their name?  Surprisingly many dogs do not, even though their guardian thinks that they do.  If you say your dog's name and you see no response; then they may not know what their name is.  So how do you go about teaching your dog their name?

You make it an important word.

Teaching a puppy or dog their name is really easy.  Link it to food or something that they love and presto.  Call name, offer treat (tiny piece of cookie that you made.)  Call name out often throughout the day and offer treat.  Call name and feed dinner.  Call name and play ball.  They'll know their name in no time.
