How can it possibly be the middle of March already? Crazy. So here is the recipe for March. I hope that you and your dog enjoy it. It's a good basic that you can easily switch up with what you roll it out in and add different spices or not.
Miss Elsa's
- 1 cup coconut flour
- 1 cup garbanzo bean flour
- 1 cup pinto beans smashed
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4-1/3 cup unsweetened coconut or (organic) brown rice flour or ground almonds to roll cookie out on.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Mash beans first so that they are ready to be added in with the rest of the ingredients. Mix flour, beans and cinnamon together. Add water slowly, you can always add more but you cannot take it out once it's in. Add egg and vanilla and mix until it is a nice roll consistency. You may need to add a bit more or less water.
Sprinkle rolling block, cutting board or counter in coconut, (organic) rice flour or ground almond. Divide dough into two and roll each piece out into a square. Approximately 1/4 inch. Cut into whatever shape you like and place on cookie sheet.
Bake at 350 for 15 min. Then let some heat out of the oven and turn down to 250. Bake for another 25-40 min. Turn oven off and leave in the oven for several hours.
Training tip #3 - March
Leash aggression is a common issue for many canine guardians. The typical response from a guardian towards their dog is to yank, yell and generally get upset at their barking etc. This makes matters worse by creating an even more stressful environment. Instead of getting upset, keep calm and bring a pocket full of your dogs favorite cookies with you. Get enough space between you, your dog and the trigger and feed them tiny pieces of cookies. The more you do this, every walk will get better and better because you are creating a positive association to the trigger.
Elsa barks like mad at horses. We don't see them often but when we are out in SUV and she sees them I immediately chirp along "oh horses" and toss treats back to where she is buckled in. The last time we saw one she looked at the horse, then me for her treat, no barking.
